Thoughts about water

The juxtaposition of movements are fascinating to me. A river rushes wildly downstream, yet there are tiny places where parts are bouncing back, or moving in other directions. Back eddies are common, where the streamflow is interrupted and diverted in another direction, the dynamic energy forcing the water to flow briefly in the wrong direction but in three dimensions.

Over, under back, countless trajectories of sideways, spray, wind, rocks, trees, all ultimately downstream, yet for that precise instant- water defies the physics of the streamflow or gravity. Maybe there is a longing to connect with this… going against the flow, doing your own thing?

Watching water for me is like watching the flames of a campfire, or the clouds moving past. I wonder why water has such a pull on many people, the ocean, waterfalls, or even lakeside. There's a connection that I can't quite comprehend.

Hat Creek in Lassen Volcanic National Park provides some incredible textures and movements for the streamflow.

Markleeville Colors

Travelling through, we had to stop in Markleeville- it’s charming with the Autumn in full swing. Cold temps are on the way though!. Here are some images from recent adventures. Lassen Volcanic National Park has some great colors, and dark skies and the comet. It’s hard to keep up, I’ll post recent photos soon!

Sunrise over Manzanita Lake, a short walk from the campground.

The Milky Way and the comet that I don’t remember the name of, and a few other things dashing through the night sky!

Burney creek is famous for fishing- I think that i caught a “spirit fish” with this image. I didn’t see the shape until I reviewed the images on the computer.

Klamath Lake Wildlife

We had a great visit with Alexis in Bend, then headed south. Next stop, Upper Klamath Lake and the Klamath National Wildlife Refuge. We were treated to a visit and hike with Traci and Doug, then a spectacular sunset. Ginger seems very nervous. It may be the hunters, and periodic gunfire, or maybe flashbacks to her “childhood”- she was picked up as a stray in Klamath Falls 9 years ago, spent 2 months in the shelter. Portland Humane Society got her off death row, and brought her to Portland to find a forever home. More than happy that it’s our home!

Morning Mountain bike ride overlooking Upper Klamath Lake.

I got out for a morning Mountain Bike ride on Spence Mountain trail complex. It’s a fantastic place to ride, and right out of our camp!

We grew legs overnight!

We’ve seen so many birds here, that will need to be a separate post. I think the White Pelican is my favorite, Susan says the White Pelicans landing in formation is tied with the Bald Eagle that flew over when we said we hadn’t seen them yet.

Clear Lake colors

We drove over Santiam pass, watching for fall colors, then detoured to Sahale Falls and Clear Lake.

The Campground at Clear Lake was closed for the season, but the trail around the lake was open and beautiful. The fall foliage and the turquoise water were awesome. We had to hustle a bit as the trail was a lot longer than we anticipated, and we're headed to bend to see Alexis.
